22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.Galatians 5:22-23 (NASB)
Even Peter said Paul was hard to understand sometimes. Today, we often have a hard time understanding things that appear to be contradictions. One of those issues pertains to sin.
Paul was talking to the Galatians about their false perceptions of circumcision. He was talking about two different concepts – the works of the flesh and the fruit of the Spirit. If we receive the Spirit through belief in Yeshua, we are inclined towards good works. If we then obey the works of the flesh, we will sin. This is not a calling to achieve grace through works but rather an understanding that completely accepting with faith the fruit of the Spirit, we will be able to deny sin because the works of the flesh will have no sway.
We are all sinners. Since Adam passed down sin throughout our race, nobody that we know of has been able to fully receive the Spirit because of the lusts of flesh that fill us, but we can strive to accept the fruits of the Spirit and deny the flesh as much as possible.
