Proverbs 3:5 – ‘lean not unto thine own understanding’

In Bible Verses by News Feed1 Comment

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.Proverbs 3:5 (KJV)

One of the most confusing teachings for Christians is this one, which on the surface seems so easy to comprehend. The reason that it can be confusing is because we’re taught to be sanctified in our minds and yet here we’re told that we aren’t to lean on our own understanding. These concepts are not contradictory. It indicates that there is a difference between what we know in our minds to be true and the way that we understand things. This is not a call to stop thinking. It’s a call to trust what the Lord has put in our minds, particularly through the teachings of the Bible.

  1. Yes, I agree with you. trusting in Him is like trusting our life unto Him. we do not lean on our own understanding specially to the things that happens in our life, because if we lean on our own knowledge and understanding, we will not understand the plans of God just like what Apollo Quiboloy says in his teachings. we can’t reach the knowledge of God.
